Kantara Chapter 1:Day 1 Early Estimates– Strong Word of Mouth Boosts Collections
Rishab Shetty much-awaited Kantara Chapter 1 has finally arrived on the big screens, and the film’s opening day was nothing short of dramatic – both at the box office and among audiences. The hype for the film was sky-high, with massive expectations set by fans and trade experts alike. Many leading trackers had predicted a thunderous start in the range of ₹30–40 crore on Day 1, while we at Cineinfinity had earlier estimated the opening to be closer to ₹18 crore. However, after witnessing the advance bookings and real-time occupancy, the film’s first-day performance turned out to be a mix of surprises.
Despite a National Holiday release and huge buzz, the morning occupancy started on a modest note. But thanks to the excellent reviews pouring in from both critics and the audience, the film saw a remarkable turnaround through the day. By the end of Day 1, Kantara Chapter 1 has collected around approx ₹20.5 to 21.5 crore net in India, a solid number, though lower than the initial hype suggested. Still, with the kind of momentum the film has picked up, this looks only like the beginning of a long and powerful run.
Occupancy Report Throughout the Day
- Morning Shows:
The film opened with 25–28% occupancy in the morning across major territories. While this was lower than expected considering the scale and pre-release buzz, spot bookings and word of mouth began to show impact even in the early hours. - Afternoon/Noon Shows:
By noon, the wave of positive reviews had spread fast. Families and youth started flocking to theatres, lifting the occupancy to an impressive 42–44%. This strong jump clearly reflected the film’s acceptance and the buzz it generated after morning shows. - Evening/Night Shows:
The real turnaround came in the evening and night shows. The occupancy settled around 38–40%, with several urban centres showing near-housefull boards. Though slightly lower than the afternoon peak, the consistency across all regions indicated strong hold and healthy footfalls. - Overall Day 1 Occupancy:
The average occupancy for the day worked out to about 33–34%, which, when combined with the ticket pricing and screens, resulted in an opening day collection of approximately ₹21 crore net.
While the ₹21 crore opening is slightly below the massive pre release expectations, especially considering the National Holiday factor, it must be noted that the film reviews and audience feedback are extraordinary. Social media has been buzzing with glowing reactions, and the word of mouth is only strengthening with each show.
Given this response, Kantara Chapter 1 is likely to see strong jumps over the weekend and could even sustain exceptionally well on weekdays. The film may not have broken opening day records, but it has built a strong foundation for long-term success. With such a start, the lifetime numbers will entirely depend on how well it maintains its pace, and looking at current trends, the film is not going to stop anytime soon.
- Day 1 Estimate: ₹21 crore net
- Verdict: Solid opening powered by excellent reviews and word of mouth.
