Bollywood Actor Arrested with 3.5 Kg Cocaine at Chennai Airport. Detailed Report.

A shocking incident shook the film industry when a Bollywood supporting actor was caught at Chennai airport with 3.5 kg of cocaine worth nearly 35 crore in the international market. The arrest took place on Monday in a joint operation by Chennai Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence DRI.

According to officials, the actor who had acted in small roles in films like Student of the Year was intercepted at the airport after arriving from Singapore early Sunday. During baggage checks, plastic pouches of white powder were found hidden in the false bottom of a trolley bag. A quick field test confirmed the substance to be cocaine.

Investigations revealed that the actor had flown from Cambodia to Chennai via Singapore. Sources said he claimed that unknown persons in Cambodia gave him the trolley and asked him to hand it over to someone at Chennai airport. However, authorities suspect that he was planning to deliver the drugs to cartels in Mumbai or Delhi.

Officials are now probing his travel history to check if he had been involved in drug smuggling earlier.

This is not the first such case in recent weeks. On September 16, a Kenyan passenger was arrested at Chennai airport with 2 kg of cocaine from Ethiopia. Earlier on September 1, customs officials seized 5.6 kg of cocaine hidden inside Ferrero Rocher chocolate cans from two passengers.

The arrest of a Bollywood actor has once again highlighted the deep links between the drug trade and the glamour world. While investigations continue, DRI is working to track the larger network behind the smuggling.
