War 2 falls on Day 3, Independence Day Gains Wiped Out
After basking in the Independence Day high, War 2 witnessed its first major setback on Saturday. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr. and Kiara Advani, the action extravaganza saw a sharp dip in collections on Day 3, sparking concern within the trade circles about its long-term prospects.
The Hindi version of the film collected around 28 crore net on Saturday, a notable drop from the 43 crore posted on Independence Day. This brings the three-day Hindi total to approximately 99 crore. While the Independence Day holiday had offered the film a strong push, the fall on its first Saturday indicates that the festive euphoria may not be enough to carry the film into HIT territory.
In the South, the dubbed versions also followed a downward trend. After a solid Day 1 thanks to NTR Jr.’s presence, the Telugu and Tamil versions have been sliding steadily, contributing under 40 crore net across three days. The combined all-India total after three days stands just under 140 crore net.
The bigger concern now lies in audience reception. With Saturday failing to match even the opening day numbers, Sunday trends will be crucial. However, advance bookings for Sunday are also not encouraging, suggesting the film may struggle to post a healthy jump. If the film doesn’t show growth, War 2 risks wrapping its extended weekend around 125 crore (Hindi), which would make the road to even 200 crore net a steep uphill climb.
For now, War 2’s Independence Day roar seems to be losing steam faster than expected. While Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. continue to draw crowds in pockets, sustaining audience interest beyond the holiday weekend will decide whether this high-octane actioner ends up as a respectable earner or another underperforming big-ticket release.
