Monday Box Office Verdict: War 2 Collapses, Coolie Drops big, Mahavatar Narsimha Stays Strong

The extended Independence Day weekend saw three heavyweights clashing at the box office, War 2 from the YRF Spy Universe, Rajinikanth Coolie and the animated phenomenon Mahavatar Narsimha. While expectations were monumental, the Monday numbers have made the picture very clear.

War 2 Crashes Hard on Monday

War 2 enjoyed a massive holiday push with 28 crore nett on Thursday and peaked at 45 crore on Friday. However, the momentum fizzled quickly as Saturday and Sunday fell to 26 crore and 25.5 crore respectively. Its extended four-day weekend stood at 125 crore nett.

But the real test came on Monday, and the film crashed outright. With just about 6.5 crore nett in Hindi (8.5 crore all languages) the drop is close to 75% in top chains like PVR, INOX and Cinepolis, with mass centres showing an even sharper decline. Several multiplex shows, including IMAX, were cancelled due to no audiences and zero occupancy  and now many screens are already being handed over to Narsimha.

The five-day total of War 2 is around 131 crore nett, and the first week will barely cross 145 crore. Lifetime business is looking capped in the 160 crore range, cementing its place among YRF’s biggest failures alongside Thugs of Hindostan.

Mahavatar Narsimha Stays Unstoppable

If one film is rewriting box office history, it is Mahavatar Narsimha. Even in its fourth Monday, the animated epic collected a superb 1.8 crore nett, taking its Hindi total to around 164 crore nett. Nationwide, the film has already crossed the 200 crore nett mark and is still running strong with extraordinary holds.

With War 2 collapsing, many screens have been reassigned to Narsimha, further boosting its run. The film is expected to sustain superbly through the weekdays and may well finish close to 200 crore nett in Hindi alone.

Coolie Suffers Big Hindi Drop, Stable in the South

Coolie – The Powerhouse is doing steady if unspectacular business in Hindi. After its extended weekend haul of 19 crore nett, the film added just 1.5 crore nett on Monday, (12 crore all languages)  bringing its Hindi total to around 20.5 crore nett. The film saw a sharp drop in Hindi markets, indicating limited interet in the North and West. The Hindi lifetime is heading towards the 30–35 crore nett range in hindi.

However, the real strength of Coolie lies in the South markets. Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s fanbase has ensured strong numbers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana. The film is a clear winner in the South but has turned into a disappointment in the Hindi belt.

Clash Verdict: War 2 and Coolie Crash in Hindi, Mahavatar Narsimha The Only Winner

The clash has delivered a mixed bag, but one fact is undeniable – Mahavatar Narsimha is the clear winner. The animated juggernaut is defying gravity in its fourth week, while War 2 has collapsed completely after the holiday push. Coolie has found its audience in the South but suffered a big drop in Hindi.

Monday numbers have settled the race:

  • Mahavatar Narsimha – ₹1.8 crore
  • War 2 – ₹6.5 crore
  • Coolie – ₹1.5 crore
