Hrithik Roshan Moves Delhi High Court to Protect His Personality Rights

After several Bollywood celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Karan Johar, actor Hrithik Roshan has now approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights.

Hrithik Files Plea for Legal Protection

According to a report by LiveLaw, Hrithik Roshan has filed a petition to safeguard the unauthorised commercial use of his “name, image, likeness, and other personality attributes.” The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow before Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora.

In his plea, Roshan has alleged the misuse and exploitation of his personal identity without his consent by third parties for commercial gain. The actor has sought judicial protection against such unauthorised activities, which he claims may mislead the public and harm his professional reputation.

Publicity Rights A Growing Trend in Bollywood

Roshan’s case reflects a broader movement in the Indian entertainment industry, where top celebrities are taking legal action to protect their digital and commercial identity. The surge of AI-generated content, deepfakes, and unlicensed endorsements has made safeguarding personality rights a pressing concern.

Recently, the Delhi High Court granted interim relief to stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, allowing them to shield their images and likenesses from unauthorised use.

Veteran singer Kumar Sanu also approached the Delhi High Court to protect his name, voice, vocal style, mannerisms, caricatures, and signature, underscoring the growing recognition of personality rights in the Indian entertainment landscape.

The Bigger Picture

Hrithik Roshan’s legal action highlights a vital issue in modern celebrity culture the ownership of one’s digital identity. As technology advances and content circulates rapidly online, Bollywood stars are increasingly seeking judicial support to maintain control over how their persona is represented and monetized.
